Frequently Asked Questions

  • To start, contact me with your needs and questions. We'll start with a free consultation to determine the scope and details of our collaboration, with flexibility to customize based on your budget, timeline and goals.

  • Memoir projects typically focus on personal experiences. I help you discover the core story driving your memoir and we shape the narrative together using guided interview transcripts as foundational prose.

Legacy books are less personal and more of a record or history of a life or organization. The contents of legacy books come out of guided conversations, and from those recorded conversations I structure and write the book, steadily revising with your feedback, and I see it through to publication. Legacy Projects may also include oral histories and visual media.

  • Timelines vary by the depth of the project, types of media incorporated, and your pace. Six months is typical for Legacy Books. Memoirs starting from scratch can take a year or more.

  • Not at all. Story Studio is designed for all experience levels — from people who have never written a word to those with a library of completed manuscripts. The focus is on meaning and expression, not perfection.

  • I do not use AI. My iphone’s Voice Memo function creates automatic transcripts locally, on the phone, not using data centers. I then format and polish the transcripts myself. I do not edit or draft prose using AI.

  • Very carefully! You can find Story Studio’s Privacy Statement here.
