David Nibert, PhD

David Nibert teaches Animals & Society, Global Change, Social Stratification, Minority Groups, and Law and Society at Witttenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. His research interests include the historical and contemporary entanglement of the oppression of humans and other animals, and he is the author of Animal Rights/Human Rights: Entanglements of Oppression and Liberation and Animal Oppression and Human Violence: Domesecration, Capitalism, and Global Conflict. He is also the editor of Animal Oppression and Capitalism (2017), a two volume set featuring new works from scholars from around the world and art by Sue Coe.

Henry and I visited Dr. Nibert in the fall of 2016 at his office on the Wittenberg campus. Our conversation delved into sociological patterns that reveal connections between capitalism, war and violence, oppression of women and indigenous people, and the domestication -- or as Dr. Nibert says, the domesecration -- of other animals.
